Linux packages for Creative

If you wonder which software comes with your Creative device, this tutorial is for you, we will show you which specific packages the Creative devices comes with GNU/Linux.

The main packages for the Creative devices are: slimbook-meta-common slimbook-meta-creative

SLIMBOOK-META-COMMON

This software is the common packages for all the Slimbook devices, this includes specifically:

  • libslimbook: This packages is the core library for Slimbook applications. 

  • python-slimbook: This package includes a library for python bindings of libslimbook.

  • slimbook-service: This package includes the Slimbook Service application, it allows the user to receive Slimbook notifications in your system, these notifications can be from the system itself such the work modes changing, touchpad enabled toggling or enabling airplane mode, or directly for Slimbook like BIOS and EC updates.


SLIMBOOK-META-CREATIVE

This software is the specific package for this laptop, it includes:

  • slimbook-meta-common: This package includes the common meta-package for all the Slimbook devices.

  • slimbook-qc71-dkms: This package includes the kernel driver for the EC used in this laptop.

  • slimbook-rgb-keyboard: This package includes the kernel driver to manage the colour and brightness of the keyboard.

  • slimbook-grub-gpiowake-fix: This package includes a patch to add the gpiolib_acpi.ignore_wake=AMDI0030:00@6 kernel parameter to GRUB, this disables the ability of GPIO to send sporadic unintended wakeup signals.

  • slimbook-quirk-i8042-wakeupThis packages includes a patch to disable the keyboard when going to suspend the laptop, this mitigates the problems of wakeup when it is suspended.

  • slimbook-quirk-i8042-reset: This package includes a patch to re-enable the keyboard when waking up from suspend, this mitigates the problem of not being able to use the keyboard after waking up.

If you use the Fedora and openSUSE distributions, the specific packages that include kernel drivers end on, respectively, kmod and kmp:

slimbook-qc71-dkms will be slimbook-qc71-kmod  on Fedora and slimbook-qc71-kmp on openSUSE


SLIMBOOK-META-GNOME

This software is the specific package for GNOME if you use said desktop environment:

  • slimbook-meta-common: This package includes the common meta-package for all the Slimbook devices.

  • gnome-shell-extension-appindicator: This package includes the GNOME interface extension to show Slimbook Service as an icon tray.

  • gnome-shell-extension-prefs: This package includes a tool to enable/disable extensions for GNOME.


SLIMBOOK-META-PLASMA

This software is the specific package for KDE Plasma if you use said desktop environment:

  • slimbook-meta-common: This package includes the common meta-package for all the Slimbook devices.
