I am wondering if the slimbook-qc71-laptop module is https://github.com/pobrn/qc71_laptop or if it has been modified by slimbook.
It seems that most of the functionality is already provided in the BIOS, so I am wondering if there are any advantages in installing it?

Yes, it is a fork from pobrn's kernel module, however it only offers basic/common features and not several of our features in our laptops (eg, work modes)
You can check in our version at https://github.com/Slimbook-Team/qc71_laptop on the `generic_slimbook` branch, that branch is the one we package for our laptops

The README is outdated, sorry
The install is the same except replacing any link that references pobrn's repo to ours (with the generic_slimbook branch)
So:
`git clone https://github.com/Slimbook-Team/qc71_laptop --branch generic_slimbook`
The work modes provide several performance modes to the laptop (power-saver, balanced, performance)
